How many kilos does it take to survive? The sum of bones, skin, and water gives us an approximate total for an average group of people. Average that numerical range you try to fit into out of obligation, not choice.
The body? A foreign entity, impermanent. A place that could be our home and yet feels distant from the mind—the mind of the observer. That observer who reasons, an evolved being still unaware of its role in this plane. And so, we return to the body—its vessel for being in this life, the one that carries it through years, wounds, joys, the source of shame and pain, like the pain women feel when giving birth— a fusion of pleasure and suffering.
Could we exist without a body? Could we be only mind? I still don’t know. But perhaps one day I’ll have the answer when fear no longer exists, when memory no longer disturbs me, when life becomes easy, weightless.
